Small Scrotal Circumference vs. Outstanding Breeding Ability of Wagyu Bulls
It is well known among experienced Wagyu breeders that Wagyu bulls have some of the best libido and semen quality of any cattle breed. However, they also typically have smaller-than-average scrotal circumference. This has caused confusion and debate from time-to-time because conventional thinking has tied scrotal circumference to breeding ability in the cattle industry, generally speaking. But Wagyu defy this logic and prove that “size does not matter” when it comes to the Wagyu cattle breed. The bottom line is that when evaluating Wagyu bulls for breeding soundness, the old standards must be “thrown out” and a different, breed-specific standard for scrotal circumference must be used.
